Why Vote for Climate?

Voting for climate is not about one issue. It is about the conditions that shape everyday life.

Climate affects our health, our homes, our energy bills, our food systems, our safety, and the strength of our communities. The decisions that shape those realities are made by elected leaders and through measures on the ballot.

Climate Is on the Ballot, Even When It Is Not Named

Many of the choices that most affect climate do not appear on the ballot under the word climate. They show up in decisions about clean energy, transportation, housing, disaster preparedness, land use, water systems, public health, and infrastructure.

Voting for climate means looking at the bigger picture. It means asking which leaders and policies will help communities stay healthy, resilient, and prepared, and which ones will leave people more vulnerable.

Voting Access Shapes Climate Progress

Communities need a real voice in the decisions that shape their future. When people can participate freely and safely, communities are better able to choose leaders and solutions that reflect their needs and values.

But voting access is not equal for everyone. Restrictive voting laws, misinformation, intimidation, language barriers, disability access failures, transportation challenges, and other obstacles can all make participation harder. These barriers often fall hardest on the communities already most affected by climate harms. When access to voting is weakened, so is the public’s ability to shape climate decisions.

Voting Turns Concern Into Action

Many people care deeply about climate change. Voting is one of the clearest ways to turn that concern into public action. It is how we decide:

Who leads — electing officials who prioritize healthy, resilient communities.

What gets funded — directing public dollars toward clean, safe, and affordable solutions.

How communities prepare — building resilience against climate-driven risks.

Whether policy moves forward — pushing toward cleaner, safer, healthier, and more affordable solutions.
